History

During the winter of 2010, Ms. Talma McGee, a student pursing an Associate degree in Architectural Construction/Technology, was enrolled in the construction cost estimating course. Ms. McGee approached her instructor Mr. Manyama, inquiring about a club for the architecture students. Ms. McGee suggested petitioning her fellow, interested, colleagues about pursuing an architectural club for students.

            At the hands of her successful petitioning on March 2, 2010 Mr. Manyama cascaded the first email out to all students who volunteered to form a chapter of the American Institute of Architectural Students (AIAS). Because of Ms. McGee's tireless work in starting the organization, she is held in high regard by her peers as the mother of the AIAS-BCF.

                On April 13, 2010 the volunteered students held a brief meeting to discuss what needs to happen to establish an AIAS chapter. On April 20, 2010 the first official meeting and elections of officers was held. The elected officers were Mr. Craig Grace - President, Mr. Everett Cole - Vice President, Ms. Talma McGee - Secretary, and Mr. Melvin Kellog -Treasurer.

            On May 25, 2010 the AIAS-BCF was officially approved and recognized as a student club of Baker College Flint.

In June 2010, the Vice-President appointed Mr. Ronald Hart - Bachelor Program Director, and Mr. Juan Zuniga - Associate Program Director.

In September 2010, President Craig Grace did not return for the fall quarter. On October 7, 2010 Everett Cole was elected as President and, Juan Zuniga was elected as Vice-President and Mr. Alex Welch was appointed as Associate Program Director. 

In October 2010, President Everett Cole appointed Mr. David Callas – Design Committee Chairman, Mr. Alex Ferguson – Volunteer Committee Chairman, Mr. Robert Stables – Fundraising Committee Chairman and, Mr. Robert Ervin – Membership Committee Chairman.

On October 29, 2010 the President submitted the AIAS-BCF chapter membership packet to the American Institute of Architectural Students National Office in Washington, DC. The packet included the membership applications for the eleven founding members; known as the Baker Eleven; Everett Cole, Juan Zuniga, Talma McGee, Melvin Kellog, Ronald Hart, Alex Welch, Alex Ferguson, Robert Stables, David Callas, Robert Ervin and Erich Schudlich.

In November 2010, the President appointed Erich Schudlich to re-design the chapter logo that was originated in June 2010.

On December 17, 2010, American Institute of Architecture Students – Baker College Flint campus became affiliated with the AIAS National Office in Washington, DC.

On January 31, 2011, Mr. Schudlich's re-design of the chapter logo was officially approved and recognized to best represent the chapter.
